Deviantart is pleading with it's user base to turn off ad blockers.

*sigh* This is a long standing grievance with me, (yes, something else Stigy has an issue with. ;) ) because bad things come with ads too. Ads are rarely approved or vetted by the site on which they appear. On more than one occasion, I've had malicious code downloaded via a Devinatart ad. It was nothing DA did, it was an ad space they sold to a reputable vendor who sold it to someone else, who sold it to someone else, who... etc, etc, etc. DA had no control over anything but selling to that first vendor.

Then, there's the simple annoyance factor. The reason I keep ad blockers in place is the site is PLASTERED with ads otherwise. A banner ad is fine. A side ad is fine, the combination is irksome, but not too bad. The deal killer is the popup. And, DA, don't waste our time or insult our intelligence by saying you don't have popup ads that aren't caught by PU blockers. Particularly on a mobile browser they show up about one click in three. DA, get rid of THAT little practice, and then we'll talk.

That said, they DO support the site. They DO keep it free, and I got no beef with that. When I know my Computer's security is on lockdown mode, or I've verified an ad on DA is safe, I even click it once in a while, just to kick a little more their way.

But no, DA. I'll be keeping my adblockers in place, thank you.

My adblocker stays on to block malicious scripts and ad/malware from corrupting my computer, and that being said, I've had more than encounter with some browser killers that have required some pretty time consuming clean up to get rid of. So unless DA stops selling their ad spaces to non-reputable dealers or is more careful about who they sell too, my AdBlock stays on.
